The SEG4LOCK derives its name from a 4 piece segmented ring fitted in the groove between the door and the closure neck transmit loads uniformly to the full 360° circumference of the neck. One person with standard wrenches can open and close the largest SEG4LOCK closure. The design is inherently safe since the door cannot be physically opened unless and until the vessels internal pressure has been fully relieved. The simple reason behind this is that the internal pressure acting on the door provides the sealing pressure of the trapezoidal gasket on the segment ring.

This force goes on improving with increasing internal pressure. Our experience is that internal pressure as low 2.0 bar can provide enough sealing force for a gas tight connection. At this pressure the force acting below the segment ring is so large that it is physically possible to force out the segment ring from the groove through the 10 mm diameter knock out holes. The holding cover provides an additional protection by way of safety overlap against the inner bore of the segment ring to ensure that the segment ring cannot be removed unless the holding cover is first removed. The holding cover is provided the locking arrangement which can be unlocked only by authorized personnel. 

The trapezoidal sealing gasket as a large sealing surface and is located in an enclosure between the closure neck, the door and the segment ring which is design to prevent extrusion or blow- out. The trapezoidal gasket of nylon 6 is manufactured to close tolerances. The closure neck at the welding end is extra long to ensure that heat inputs during welding do not distort the sealing face of the closure.
